When You Don't Know What You Want (But You Know It's Not This)

There's a particular kind of restlessness that's hard to explain to other people. You're not unhappy, exactly. Things are fine. But something feels off, and you can't put your finger on what it is.

Maybe you've been doing the same thing for years and it used to feel right, but now it doesn't. Or maybe you look at your life from the outside and think: this should be enough. Why isn't it?

I've been there. And I've sat across from hundreds of people who've been there too.

Here's what I've learned: not knowing what you want is not a problem to solve. It's a signal to pay attention to.

Most of us were never taught how to listen to that signal. We were taught to set goals, make plans, and push through. And that works — until it doesn't. Until you wake up one morning and realize you've been building someone else's version of a good life.

So what do you do when you're stuck in that in-between space?

You start with what's true right now. Not what should be true. Not what used to be true. What actually is.

Ask yourself: What am I tolerating? What drains me? What lights me up, even a little? You don't need a five-year plan. You need to start noticing.

The clarity doesn't come from thinking harder. It comes from paying attention differently. From getting quiet enough to hear what you already know but haven't given yourself permission to say out loud.

This is one of the core things I work on with people. Not telling them what they should want — but helping them find what's already there, buried under years of expectations and noise.

If this sounds familiar, you're not lost. You're just at the beginning of something. And that's a good place to be.
